What We Thought:

Hanky Panky is the film Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner met on. It’s directed by Sidney Poitier and feels very much like a Gene Wilder comedy. I hadn’t seen it in a few years and popped in the new Blu-ray that came out a couple of months back.

Wilder plays a man who gets caught in a murder mystery despite having zero connections to anyone involved. He gets in a cab with an attractive woman, mails a package for her and soon he’s wanted for her death. Radner is looking into the death of her brother and soon finds herself connected to Wilder trying to figure out just how far it all goes.

I actually forgot some of the movie takes place in Boston. It starts off in New York, hits Boston and Maine then heads out west. Wilder and Radner end up at the New England Aquarium at one point so that was neat. The North End and other Boston landmarks are shown too.

If you are a fan of Gene Wilder you’ll totally dig Hanky Panky. He was a great physical actor and wordsmith. You could see the chemistry with Radner instantly. It’s not one of his classics to me, but I like it for the connection to Massachusetts & Maine. I know it’s been available in a combo pack before, but I’m not sure if this is its solo Blu-ray debut or not.
