Garnering an amazing 45 Gemini® and Canadian Screen Awards nominations from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television during its run, MURDOCH MYSTERIES debuts a special DVD collection, The Christmas Cases Limited Edition, on October 30, 2018 from Acorn TV. Set in Toronto in the late 1890s and early 1900s during the age of invention, Murdoch Mysteries (aka The Artful Detective) centers on Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson, Sue Thomas: F.B. Eye), a methodical and dashing detective, who enlists radical new forensic techniques to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders. This DVD 3-Disc Set features three feature-length Christmas-themed episodes, plus bonus featurettes and a collectible Christmas card. A Merry Murdoch Christmas made its U.S. debut in July 2016 and won the Canadian Screen Award for Best TV Movie or Limited Series as well as Best Writing; Once Upon a Murdoch Christmas made its U.S. debut in July 2017; and Home for the Holidays made its U.S. debut in December 2017 on Acorn TV. The hugely popular series is currently in production on Season 12. Called a “glorious streaming service… an essential must-have” (The Hollywood Reporter), Acorn TV is North America’s most popular and largest streaming service focused on British and international television.

Detective William Murdoch (Bisson) and his team solve yuletide crimes in these three feature-length mysteries set in Edwardian Toronto.

Mysteries:

A Merry Murdoch Christmas: At a charity gala, Murdoch and his wife, Dr. Julia Ogden (Gemini® winner Hélène Joy, Durham County) find the host dead from a broken neck; Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig, Coronation Street) suspects the culprit is the legendary Christmas creature Krampus.

Once Upon a Murdoch Christmas: When Murdoch investigates a daring robbery where the culprit seemed to possess superhuman abilities, Constable Crabtree (Jonny Harris, Still Standing) realizes the robber resembles a character from his novel.

Home for the Holidays: Murdoch and Julia travel to British Columbia to visit Murdoch’s brother (Dylan Neal, Dawson’s Creek), but instead of a holiday, they end up investigating a murder at an archaeological site.

Guest stars include Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey), Kelly Rowan (The O.C.), Megan Follows (Reign, Anne of Green Gables), Kate Hewlett (The Girlfriend Experience), Jake Epstein (Degrassi: The Next Generation), and Ed Asner (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Up).

Bonus: Making Murdoch featurettes (16 min.) and a collectible Christmas card with a holiday greeting from Yannick Bisson

  1. My wife loves watching Murdoch. I’m kind of burned out on the whole crime drama/police procedural genre, but come Christmas, this would be a nice break from the monotony of the typical holiday fare.
