CLEOPATRA ENTERTAINMENT PICKS UP ALL WORLDWIDE RIGHTS TO THE PUSSY RIOT MUSIC DOC “ACT & PUNISHMENT”
Film to debut November, 2017 in conjunction with a soundtrack and U.S. tour by the band
Cleopatra Entertainment has acquired all worldwide rights (minus-Russian territories) to the music documentary ACT & PUNISHMENT, the true tale of the Russian activist and punk rock band “Pussy Riot,” which was written and directed by Evgeny Mitta, and stars actual band members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Mariya Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich. The film was produced by Mitta, Alyona Gorlanova and by Russian production companies 2Plan2 and Paperworks. Cleopatra is planning a nationwide domestic release of the film on all platforms later this year, with a full audio soundtrack release in conjunction with a 2017 U.S. tour by the band to promote the film.
The film follows the Russian all-girl punk rock band “Pussy Riot” – the real ‘jail-bait’ band – who stood up to government human rights oppression in the country and paid the ultimate price with their incarceration in 2011. Following their release from prison in 2012, their story is told in this stunning documentary film that covers their evolution from mere political activists through their formation of a punk rock band destined to bring their message of revolution to the masses and beyond.
The deal was brokered by Cleopatra Founder and CEO Brian Perera, Tim Yasui, VP/GM of Cleopatra Entertainment, and by Antipode International Sales’ Olga Ulybysheva on behalf of the filmmakers.
