Maika Monroe (It Follows, Independence Day: Resurgence) and Jeremy Allen White (Shameless, Rob the Mob) will lead the cast of Shotgun, written and directed by Hannah Marks and Joey Power. The film is produced by Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman, Michael J. Rothstein, and Ash Christian. Sean Glover and Wei Wang of WYSJ Media also serve as Producer and Executive Producer respectively.
A unique romance blending heartfelt drama with offbeat comedy, Shotgun follows Elliot (played by Jeremy Allen White) and Mia (played by Maika Monroe) as they develop a fast relationship after one of them is diagnosed with a life-changing illness. Additional casting and plot details will be announced at a later date.
The film marks the directorial debuts for its writers Hannah Marks and Joey Power. Marks is also a rapidly rising young actress, currently starring in BBC America’s popular series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency opposite Elijah Wood and Samuel Barnett. Marks appeared in last year’s critically acclaimed anthology thriller Southbound, and recently completed a starring role in the independent film Almost Home, based on the novel by Jessica Blank.
Lead actress Maika Monroe is well known for her star turns in the critically acclaimed, breakout genre films It Follows and The Guest, as well as her role in Independence Day: Resurgence. Lead actor Jeremy Allen White is most known for portraying the beloved character Lip Gallagher in Showtime’s acclaimed series Shameless, with feature film credits including Rob the Mob, Bad Turn Worse and Twelve.
“Maika and Jeremy could not be more perfectly suited to bring the complex and challenging characters of Mia and Elliot to life,” commented Marks. “We are big fans of their work, and are incredibly grateful and excited to have them on board,” added Power.
Producer Jordan Yale Levine added, “Hannah and Joey have created a story that is wholly original, yet universal in its exploration of how we deal with life’s most trying circumstances. I’m so proud to partner with them on this fantastic project.”
