LAUNCH WSYPTW 10.14-10.16.

Hello everyone! Welcome back to our regularly scheduled articles, we’re glad to see you. I think it’s safe to say that we all look forward to Fridays and why shouldn’t we? We get to kick off the Italian loafers and pick up our favorite game and enjoy the weekend. We have plenty of fantastic choices selected for you this weekend so let’s get to it!

We all had a bad taste left in our mouths after No Man’s Sky was finally released, it was supposed to be the ultimate space exploration game! Instead we got a mere husk of potential that could have been a great game. If you’re still looking for your space exploration kick, check out Elite: Dangerous. Elite: Dangerous is a space exploration game that has a massive multiplayer and the universe actually evolves based on player action. Sounds cool, right? Time actually passes in the game. When it launched in 2014, it was the year 3300, now it’s the year 3302. Everything feels alive and hits the mark of a great space exploration game.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard of the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location hit steam last week and it is now the number one game on YouTube. I’m sure you’ve seen the videos of YouTuber’s freaking out, screaming and crying out of fear. This game will  scare you, no doubt about it. While I do find jump scares as cheap, the Five Nights at Freddy’s series is built on it. This environment is a great setting as you play as a maintenance worker, charged with working on animatronics. But these animatronics aren’t as cute or fun when the lights are off. The main goal is to survive each shift. There are a total of 5 shifts (hence the Five Nights part of the title) that you must survive in order to win. This game is fun, it’s terrifying and it’s what you should be playing. Here is a trailer for you guys:

Gears of War 4 finally released, and I’ll tell you, it’s a breath of fresh air. You play as JD Phoenix, son of Marcus Phoenix, the original protagonist from the original series. The game plays almost exactly the same and delivers new enemies that are kinda like the locus. While this may seem like a drag, the story is deep and fleshed out and really breathes new life into the series. I personally can’t wait for Gears of War 5 so I can continue this awesome story. I  don’t want to give away the story, which is what iI really enjoyed, so I’m gonna keep this one short. Go play it.

A few years ago I played Magic:The Gathering at a competitive level. Trading card games were a huge part of how I spent my time. Now that I don’t have the time, I’ve found a new card game to fill my time, you guessed it, HearthStone. Blizzard Entertainment delivers a great experience with the Warcraft inspired card game. Its rules are simple, yet the design is elegant and each game is fun and unique. There’s a ranked season that restarts every month and there’s a casual playlist as well. While you can buy packs of cards for a few bucks here or there, you can also earn them by doing challenges and earning gold. You can then spend gold to buy more packs! If you’re a fan of trading card games or you’re looking to get your feet wet, Hearthstone is both simple and complex enough to make this the game for you. The song enforces the tavern feel of the game and reminds you it’s all about fun. Just listen to this music:

That’s all for today folks, if there’s a game you think I should have put on the list, let me know in the comments. Don’t forget, on November 5th, I’ll be doing a 24 hour live stream of me crying in my bathtub, errr, playing video games (there still may be some tears!) to raise money for the Boston Children’s Hospital. It’s a great cause, here’s the article I put out explaining more in-depth: https://thenerdstemplar.com/2016/10/10/gaming-to-save-lives-earning-a-halo-while-fulfilling-my-destiny-to-give-children-an-extra-life/. I hope you all have a great weekend, let me know what you’ll be planning on playing this weekend in the comments below. Stay Classy everyone.
