I’m not old enough to have seen I Love Lucy when it first aired. I grew up on reruns whether watching it in syndication with my parents or later on thanks to things like Nick At Nite. It has always been iconic TV to me and Lucille Ball is one of the Mt. Rushmore of comedic actresses because of it.
That’s the thing with the show, even if you didn’t watch it, you probably know of legendary scenes if you’re Gen X or older. The runaway candy conveyor belt, the wine making stomping, getting her head stuck and more. Ball was the queen of physical comedy long before women did that type of humor.
I Love Lucy has had countless releases in the past. There’s been colorized editions. There’s been “Best Episodes” editions. There’s even one with George Reeves as Superman. This latest is the 75th Anniversary Edition. This includes every season of I Love Lucy and the three seasons of The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. I’m not sure if that combination has been available in one complete series like this before. This is 33 discs of episodes and bonus features including the Original I Love Lucy Pilot, audio commentary on select episodes, Vintage Sponsor Spots, Select Colorized Episodes, I Love Lucy The Movie and more.
Through the years the show has been restored, remastered, colorized, and more. This I Love Lucy: The Complete Series 75th Anniversary Edition is probably the best combination of all of that. I love having all of the series right in one Blu-ray collection and can definitely see myself revisiting the series through the years because of it. It’s one of the most important shows to ever air and Lucille Ball is one of the most important women in the history of Hollywood. If you’re a fan of the show, this 75th Anniversary edition is a must own.
