When Season 12 of Blue Bloods returns, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) seeks the help of Maggie Gibson (Callie Thorne), a psychic medium, during his investigation into the tragic murder of a two-year-old boy, while Frank (Tom Selleck) finds himself at odds with the mayor over how best to protect the city after a recent uptick in city crime.
Vanessa Lachey stars as Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor Jane Tennant, who, with her unwavering team of specialists, balances duty, family and country, while investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security and the mysteries of the sun-drenched island paradise itself.
What We Thought:
Blue Bloods: The Twelfth Season hit DVD last week, but I put it in the wrong pile and got the release date wrong. Sorry about that. As for the show, I watch it on DVD when it comes my way, but overall I actually don’t mind it. My parents watch it faithfully every week and it’s one of their favorites. I actually don’t know why I don’t try watching it when it airs because I do like the characters, stories and setting.
Season 12 starts with Donnie Wahlberg’s character Danny seeing a medium played by the underrated Callie Thorne to solve the murder of a boy. An arrest made by Frank (Tom Selleck) goes viral. Later episodes include Frank maybe stepping down to accept a job from Treat Williams, a gang puts a hit on Danny, Alex Kingston makes an appearance, a drug shipment finds Danny teaming up with Lyle Lovett, musician Jimmy Buffett plays a con-man pretending to be Jimmy Buffett, Defund the Police makes another appearance when a school situation arises, a Marine saves a celebrity’s life and wants Frank to get him into the police force despite his age, Erin announces she’s running for district attorney. It’s not groundbreaking TV, but I find it watchable and my parents love it.
NCIS: Hawaii: Season One is the newest addition to the NCIS Universe. Vanessa Lachey plays Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent in Charge of the NCIS: Hawaii. Set in Pearl Harbor, like other Hawaiian based show, the backdrops are absolutely beautiful. If you needed a Hawaii fix after Hawaii: 5-0 ended this should handle it.
I’m not the biggest fan of the NCIS franchise and only watch the shows when they come my way. Again my parents watch these shows and overall didn’t mind this one. The original is still my mom’s personal favorite, but like me she did love the scenery in this one.
The series opens with an experimental Navy aircraft crashing and the team having to figure out what happened before its secrets get revealed. Other episodes include trucks being robbed by thieves using old school explosives, a Marine is shot, but doesn’t tell the truth, a Japanese sailor is killed, bones are discovered during the 80th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombings, a character’s daughter is taken by pirates, a prisoner exchange closes out the final episodes. It’s not a great show, but those who watch the franchise will probably enjoy it.
