Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to Brazilian writer-director Marcelo Caetano’s (Neon Bull) sensually-charged directorial debut BODY ELECTRIC. Breaking Glass acquired the film in September from M-Appeal world sales. The film will arrive on DVD and VOD platforms beginning December 5.

BODY ELECTRIC held its world premiere at the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam, and held its US premiere at Outfest where it received a Grand Jury Special Mention. The film went on to play the Guadalajara International Film Festival where it received the Best Feature prize; Ventana Sur where it won Le Film Francais Prize, the Latin American Vision Prize, and the Sofia Film Award; and Inside Out Toronto. Upcoming festivals include the San Francisco Latino Film Festival, New York Latino Film Festival, TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival, and Festival du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal.

Described as “a satisfying, warmhearted film whose understated charms leave a pleasant glow” (Variety), BODY ELECTRIC stars Kelner Macêdo, Lucas Andrade, and Welket Bungué. Written and directed by Marcelo Caetano, the film’s production team includes Producers Marcelo Caetano and Roberto Tibirlçá; Executive Producer Ana Rabelo, and Associate Producer Ivan Melo.

Carefree Elias works at a textile factory, juggling long shifts, dreams of the sea, and animated nights out with no-strings sexual encounters. As he tries to discern where his future might lead him, Elias tries to take pleasure in the small things in life. After yet another night of working overtime, he and his coworkers decide to go out for a bit of fun, ultimately leading to new encounters and unexpected desires.

“We are thrilled to add BODY ELECTRIC (Corpo Electrico) to our upcoming slate of titles”, said Richard Ross, Co-President of Breaking Glass. “Marcelo Caetano has crafted a sensual, beautiful, and relatable story of a contemporary young gay man trying to navigate his way through life, and dealing with love, sex and intimacy along the way. It is a wonderful addition to our growing roster of films from South America.”

“After many years of successful collaboration with Breaking Glass Pictures, we are excited to see BODY ELECTRIC in good hands for North American distribution”, said Maren Kroymann, CEO of M-Appeal.

The film has also found distribution in Germany, Benelux, and the UK.
