This season roars back into action with Ash leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his home town of Elk Grove. There, he confronts Ruby, only to find that she too is now a victim of evil and in need of Ash’s help. The former enemies have to form an uneasy alliance to give them a chance of success as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

What We Thought:

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 is just as good as the first season and has one of the grossest scenes in the history of television. The show is a great combination of gore and comedy and is a perfect fit in the Evil Dead franchise.

What I loved about Season 2 is that it sends Ash and his group to Elk Grove connecting the original movies even more. You learn about how the town pretty much disowned Ash including his own father played by the great Lee Majors. There’s a song about Ash and people refer to him as Ashy Slashy because they think he killed everyone in the cabin including his sister. It’s a fantastic concept and continues the story perfectly.

I also liked that the Oldsmobile Delta 88 gets a lot of love in Season 2. It has some great episodes even being possessed in one of them. It’s such an iconic car and part of the franchise that it has to play a major role from time to time. I also liked that they could reference Army of Darkness. The first season couldn’t reference it directly because of rights issues, but Season 2 could reference Ash’s time travel abilities.

There’s also that gross scene I mentioned earlier. It’s not gross in terms of sickening gross, but more of the ewwww gross type. I won’t spoil it, but the scene involved Ash in a morgue with dead bodies and finding himself lodged in a tight area. I rewound the Blu-ray disc to rewatch that scene to make sure what I thought happened actually happened. It did.

The Blu-ray looks fantastic. It has great coloring especially on the effects. Music plays a big part in the show and the audio is top-notch on the Blu-ray as well. It also comes with some great bonus features including commentaries and tons of featurettes.

I am such a fan of Ash vs. Evil Dead that I got Season 2 on Blu-ray and binged all 10 episodes straight through. It has everything I want in a horror comedy. Bruce Campbell is comedic gold and the show mixes practical effects and CGI extremely well. I loved the storyline of Season 2 and it makes me want to re-binge all the movies yet again. All I can say is, bring on Season 3!
