Joey Kern Makes His Directorial Debut and Stars with Pablo Schreiber, Adam Brody, Tyler Labine, Zachary Knighton and Himself
Will Open In Theaters and VOD September 22nd

Blue Fox Entertainment announces today that they have acquired the worldwide rights for the comedy BIG BEAR and will be releasing it in theaters and on VOD September 22, 2017. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Joey Kern (TNT’s Good Behavior, SUPER TROOPERS) who stars along with Emmy-nominated Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black, American Gods), Adam Brody (The O.C.), Tyler Labine (Deadbeat, MONSTERS UNIVERSITY), Zachary Knighton (Happy Endings) and Toby Huss (Halt and Catch Fire). The film was financed by Maybe This Year (MTY) Productions and produced by MTY Productions in association with Fortress Features.

In a competitive off-market situation, Todd Slater brokered the distribution deal on behalf of Blue Fox Entertainment with MTY Productions President Brandon Evans as well as Fortress Features Principals Brett Forbes and Patrick Rizzotti.

“We want to make a big splash with our first theatrical release under the Blue Fox Entertainment label. Given this terrific cast and their excellent performances, we believe we have a winner with BIG BEAR,” said Blue Fox Entertainment Partners James Huntsman, Todd Slater and Andreas Olavarria. “Joey Kern absolutely knocked his directorial debut out of the park, we are proud to introduce him as a director to the world.”

“I couldn’t be more excited that BIG BEAR has found a home with Blue Fox Entertainment,” commented MTY Productions’ Brandon Evans. “And I can’t say enough great things when it comes to our director Joey Kern. He had an incredible vision how he wanted to direct this film, and after working with him on our film BLOODSUCKING BASTARDS, it was very easy for us to say yes to him when he brought us the script.”

“Working on Big Bear with Pablo Schreiber, Adam Brody, Tyler Labine and Zachary Knighton was a career highlight,” says Kern. “I’m forever grateful to MTY and Fortress Features for taking a chance on my script and allowing me to be in front of and behind the camera. To say this film means a lot to me is an understatement, so to have the opportunity to release it out into the world with a first-rate company like Blue Fox couldn’t make me happier.”

It is hard to do, but Joey delivered a laugh out loud buddy comedy that is not only full of heart, but it is extremely relatable and authentic. Audiences will no doubt love seeing this cast together on screen,” says Fortress Features’ Brett Forbes

Kern also penned the script and produced with Evans, Forbes, Rizzotti and Luke Edwards (Little Big League).

In BIG BEAR, when Joe (Kern) gets dumped by his cheating fiancée, he reluctantly decides to go ahead with his bachelor party up at Big Bear Lake thanks to the urging of his three best friends (Brody, Labine, Knighton). Things take a turn for the worse the next morning when Joe discovers the man his fiancée ran off with (Schreiber) has been kidnapped by his friends and tied up in the basement.
