The Expendables features an all-star cast including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews. Together, the elite team embarks on a mission to overthrow a Latin American dictator, but they soon discover a more formidable threat.

The crew returns with a vengeance in the film’s sequel, The Expendables 2. Action icons Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger join the franchise. In this second chapter, the team accepts a seemingly simple mission, but it soon evolves into a quest for revenge against a rival mercenary who threatens the world with a deadly weapon.

What We Thought:

We here at The Nerds Templar are big fans of The Expendables franchise. Assistant Editor Rocky Maxwell has owned them for years, myself, I never actually owned them so I loved getting these 4Ks in to review. My only complaint is that the third film didn’t come with the first two.

Having grown up with the classic 80s action films that most of this cast are known for, The Expendables films are perfect for guys like us. Each film has the feel of those 80s movies we love. There’s great action which is the number one thing you expect from this cast. The action is over the top (pun intended) and loud. There are tons of explosions and guns plus hand to hand fighting and lots of testosterone.

But what makes the films great are the one liners. Going back to the movies that made these stars big box office names, those movies had great jokes in them that we still quote today. Sylvester Stallone, even at his age, is still highly entertaining. Jason Statham is a great action star, but is also highly entertaining. Terry Crews simply makes me laugh. Plus guys like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Eric Roberts, and the rest of the cast are all great.

The 4K upgrade is fantastic. The films look amazing. The explosions are in your face and stunning. Costuming looks great as do the vehicles they ride. Audio is super loud and shakes your room. They also come with a ton of bonus features which we love at the site. Honestly, the bonus features alone are worth the purchase.

If you are a fan of The Expendables franchise then the upgrade to 4K is worth it. The films look fantastic and I’m glad they came my way. If you haven’t seen the franchise, what is wrong with you? I mean, this is a great way to get into the series. Nothing else to say besides…
