Synopsis:

Inspired by our favorite dark & twisted graphic novels, CRAZED revolves around vigilante cop Ronan Pierce. He is fueled by a tragic past, and the recent abduction of his wife McKenzie has Ronan’s appetite for vengeance completely unbounded. Relentlessly searching for clues, Ronan systematically unchains his rage on a city full of psychopaths, gangs, corruption and the unrivaled evil-doings of the Luna Cartel. Responsible for both his daughter’s death and his wife’s abduction, the Luna Cartel enslaves thousands of young beautiful women from around the world and harvests organs from all of its other victims. Joined by his partner Rex and a young circus clown named Karina, Ronan ‘paints the town red’ in his search for bloody justice.

What We Thought:

I greatly enjoyed Crazed. It was very over-the-top and violent. You can see the graphic novel influence, especially in some of the aesthetics, like in the city landscape shots, and the scenes where the characters are driving. Some of the characters are also the type you are more likely to see in a graphic novel.

The production worked really well with what was obviously a smaller budget. I won’t say all the acting was good, but most of the performances worked for the characters in the movie. Wade Gallagher who played Damien Logan in the film doesn’t seem to have much for other credits, but he really did well in the role. After the credits there is a dedication to him, because apparently he died of cancer, so R.I.P. Wade Gallagher. Michael McCarthy (who also co-wrote) doesn’t seem to have much for acting credits either, but did great as Ronan Pierce, although at times his gravelly voice felt too forced. The actor playing the man in the mask was trying too hard in his performance, and the annoying,  stupid thing he kept doing with his tongue makes me think maybe he was trying too hard to replicate Heath Ledger as Joker or something. Kane Hodder and R.A. Mihailoff get mentioned in some of the promotions for this movie, but both are barely in it, although Kane Hodder was awesome in his scene.

The scenes of action and fighting are decently done, and during them there are some unique things you don’t often see. Between these action scenes and the scenes of torture and mutilation, they don’t spare the blood and gore, and the effects for it look great. The music was a weird mix of good and unbearable. Some fit the scenes, and other times if felt more like a song that was just stuck in there. The movie wraps up to a great conclusion, and the antagonists of the film are dealt with, yet it leaves place for a sequel, as the Luna Cartel, and its boss are still out there. I will be keeping a watch out in case there is a sequel. I wouldn’t recommend this movie to any that are faint of heart, or weak of stomach, but to everyone else I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it and I say GO SEE IT on VOD now, or on DVD Nov.11
