When an untraceable group of elite bank robbers executes the perfect heist, making off with millions in cash and leaving a dead bank manager in their wake, the FBI agents investigating the robbery/homicide (Christopher Meloni, Dave Bautista, and Adrian Grenier) begin to uncover signs of corruption involving the bank’s owner (Bruce Willis) and his high-power clients. As they dig deeper into the case, the Feds realize that things are not what they seem, and in order to untangle a complicated web of deception and corruption they must push themselves to the brink – where the lines between right and wrong are often blurred.
What We Thought:
Marauders is an overall solid crime thriller, but could have used a better ending. It opens with a fantastic bank robbery, but closes with a disappointing explanation.
For a film with a decent cast that no one has ever heard of it, it is pretty good. I liked it and liked it a lot till the end. Every robbery scene was intense. The robberies are up there with The Town and Triple 9 which I saw earlier this year.
The cast consists of Bruce Willis, Christopher Meloni, Dave Bautista, Adrian Grenier, Johnathan Schaech and more. Meloni plays a special agent in the FBI along with Bautista and Grenier. Willis is a bank owner with hidden secrets. There’s twists and turns and people connected to others and it works till the very end.
It has great action sequences. The robbers wear cool masks and body armor. The FBI and cops shoot at them, people die. It all works. The story is working, but the film tried to get too crafty and outsmarted itself. I won’t say who the surprise twist is, I’ll just say it didn’t work for me. It seemed like a second or third ending that they thought was smart, but they should have stuck with a more by the books one.
The Blu-ray looks great. The action scenes are fast and crisp. Costuming, especially the robbers, look great in HD. Audio is top-notch with easy to hear dialogue and loud explosions and gun shots. Bonus features include commentary, making of, interviews and more.
If you take Marauders for what it is, a lesser known, sort of straight-to-video action flick, it’s still a lot of fun. The more I see of Dave Bautista, the more I like. It’s a little sad seeing Bruce Willis in non-blockbuster action flicks, but at least this one was entertaining. The technology the bad guys used to hide their voices and get away without being identified was very cool too. If the ending didn’t bother me so much I’d really push this one, but it’s still…
