What We Thought:
I knew of the story in Eddie the Eagle a little, but to be honest, I had no idea if he was triumphant or not. I think not knowing the result really helps separate the film from being just another uplifting sports movie.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with an uplifting sports movie, but if you’ve seen one, you pretty much have seen them all. Whether it’s The Rookie or The Blind Side, the premise is usually the same.
What also separates this from others is the fantastic chemistry between Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton. I’ve liked Jackman for years now and you know what to expect from him. He’s great at these types of roles and it reminded me of his film Real Steel.
The surprise is Egerton. I’ve only seen him in Kingsman: The Secret Service and this is a drastically different character. If he’s going to give performances like this consistently, he’s going to be around for a long time. He really impressed me and he’s joining the likes of fellow younger European actors Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Hardy, James McAvoy and Tom Hiddleston that will get me to see a movie just because they are in it.
Not knowing the results really kept me watching. I wanted to know how far he would go and all that. It’s almost suspenseful in a way because you aren’t sure if it will turn out positive like Miracle or be more of a heartfelt story like Cool Runnings. I’m not even hinting at the result because if you don’t know it, don’t find out till you watch the movie.
The Blu-ray looks pretty incredible. The snowy backdrop looks flawless in HD. You wouldn’t think a film like this is why you want HD on your flat screen, but it really shined. Audio is top notch as well and the sound puts you right there in the action. It has some really good bonus features as well.
Sports stories can make for entertaining films, especially family friendly films. Eddie the Eagle is a great family film. If you have kids, get it and watch it with them. You’ll be inspired by the story. Because of that, the film is…

- Attitude is Altitude: Filming the Ski Jumps
