Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace (Samara Weaving) discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all.

What We Thought:

I was highly looking forward to Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. I’m a fan of the first film, Ready or Not, and rewatched it the night before seeing this sequel. I’m a big fan of Samara Weaving and really enjoyed Kathryn Newton in Freaky so I thought she would be a fantastic addition to the sequel. After seeing it, I think the first film is better, but I definitely wasn’t disappointed in the follow up. If you enjoyed the first, you’ll dig the second.

What the filmmakers do best is they know what they are making. These movies aren’t groundbreaking flicks nor are they trying to be. They are violent and fun and entertaining. There’s something to be said for just making what the crowd wants. Ready or Not set the tone and the sequel literally continues where that film ends. Samara Weaving’s Grace ends the first film smoking a butt while sitting on steps and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come begins right there and then. Grace gets taken away in an ambulance and the authorities are trying to figure out what happened.

We get introduced to Faith (Newton) who turns out to be Grace’s long lost sister. She’s Grace’s emergency contact and neither look happy to be there. As the sisters reconnect, powerful families around the world are notified that the bride survived Hide & Seek and they scramble to figure out who can take the High Seat. If the first film was Grace vs. her new in-laws, the sequel is Grace & Faith vs. multiple families. It’s easy to follow especially if you’ve seen the first one.

The tag team of Weaving and Newton are easy to root for. The movie gets into their history a bit, but never actually defines what separated them. Faith has no idea what’s happening while Grace immediately kicks into survival mode. The older sister and headstrong younger sister dynamic works because both female leads are great at what they do. Weaving continues to shine in movies like this and Mayhem while Newton is becoming one of my favorite young actresses.

Plus the supporting cast works too. I’ve been a fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar for decades now and I’m glad to see her doing more work again. She has great chemisty with Shawn Hatosy and the supporting cast also includes Nestor Carbonell, Elijah Wood, David Cronenberg and more.

If you are a fan of Ready or Not I highly recommend Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. It’s entertaining, has some great kills and big laughs. Weaving and Newton make perfect killing sisters and Wood, Gellar, Hatosy and the rest of the cast all work too. If you want a film to shut your mind off and just have some fun, check it out.
