Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country. With tensions already flaring, an encounter with an unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love and their flesh.

What We Thought:

I don’t know if I can say that Together is a great movie, but I can say it’s just different enough to still recommend to people. It’s quite the departure for its stars Alison Brie and Dave Franco who I’ve never seen in anything like this before.

They play a couple moving to a small town so that Brie can take a teaching job. Franco plays a musician who’s at a weird spot in his life, but he’s moving for her. After the move they go out in the woods to explore and find themselves falling into a cave. After being stuck there for the night, they are able to get out in the morning light, but something has happened. Franco’s character seems off and their legs had fused together while sleeping.

As he looks into the town he discovers others have gone missing and they learn about a cult like organization that had a church in that cave. As the movie goes off the rails, Brie and Franco do a great job holding your attention and wondering how it will end. Will it go bananas like the ending of The Substance or go in a more mainstream angle?

That is why the film ultimately is still watchable, you’re never quite sure where it will go. There is more to another character than you think. You wonder if it’s all in Franco’s head or if Brie will fall ill too. It’s well made and well acted so even though it feels like a smaller horror flick, the talent involved makes it feel mainstream despite not being mainstream.

Together had some controversy to it, but I don’t even remember what it was. I thought Alison Brie and Dave Franco were very good and it has some great effects. It’s not as over-the-top as The Substance, but the ending is just odd enough to make you want to watch it. If you were on the fence about it, give it a try.
