Synopsis:

During WWII, Agent Banks of the British Special Operations Executive must rescue a French resistance fighter from a secret Nazi bunker. Always outnumbered and outgunned, Banks and his group of allies must use their guile to outwit the enemy and survive the deadly mission.

What We Thought:

War Blade is as generic as its name. I’ve seen a lot of war movies in my lifetime especially World War II films and unfortunately this is just the latest one. It’s not poorly made or anything, it just feels like so many other movies that have come before it.

It’s about British special ops types who have to team up with French resistance types to accomplish a mission. We’ve seen that many times before. This time around that mission is a rescue mission and we’ve seen that before whether it’s WWII, Vietnam or Iraq/Afghani war flicks.

I will say that the one thing that stands out is that it’s not afraid to kill off characters. Most of the time the core group of fighters survive or lose one or two people. This dropped bodies and I appreciate that. Maybe it’s based on a true story, but I’m not 100% sure if it said that in the film or not.

I’m not sure if I’m familiar with anyone involved in War Blade and it makes sense that I had never heard of the film before. The acting is fine and it looks 100% like a lower budget war movie so the production side isn’t the problem. It just feels like so many other films (some better, some worse) that I probably won’t remember much about the film after writing this review.
