What We Thought:

When I watch something like Holiday 3-Film Collection I get nothing out of it. And you know what? I’m ok with that because I’m not the target audience for these types of films. When I watch them I try to figure out if it’s something my mom and sister would enjoy. They watch these movies all winter long and this latest three film release from Mill Creek Entertainment would be something right up their alley.

Are all these films generic copies of one another? Of course. Do they all rely on similar plots of big city girl, small town boy, return to home, fall in love, save the day Christmas miracle, plus/minus all of the above in some sort of combination? Absolutely. Are they all full of good looking people in picturesque settings with quirky side characters and ending with love? Yes. They have become so cliche even The Simpsons did an episode about these holiday movies. But again, the target audience eats them up and watches them non-stop this time of year.

Christmas with the Knightlys is a film we’ve seen a thousand times before. A rich guy needs a PR makeover so he pretends to date a nice, normal woman that will make him look good and she gets a community center built from his money. Will they fall for each other while pretending to be in love before their lie is found out? What do you think?

Christmas in Big Sky Country is about a woman falling for a PR guy who represents an oil company that had an incident that trapped a family member. He’s there to make sure the family has what they need while the family member is trapped. Or is he? Are his motives wholesome or is he a corporate shill trying to get them to agree to an insurance/liability policy? But will love conquer all?

Christmas in Maple Hills is holiday romance personified. It’s literally about saving a farm when a woman wants to expand her ice cream business, but is told all the land she believed to be her family’s isn’t. With the help of a good looking man, they dive into the family mystery with her grandmother maybe having some secrets. My mom would love this one.
