This Roundup consists of three TV shows that hit home video over the past couple of weeks that I got recently. I’ll start with the best of the bunch, Star Trek: Picard: The Complete Series. This Blu-ray set consists of all 3 seasons of Star Trek: Picard. Everyone loved the idea of Patrick Stewart returning to the character that made him a legend and overall the series isn’t bad. All three are different in their own ways. The first season really feels like a standalone series. Stewart is a much older Picard and the season involves a young woman who doesn’t realize she’s a synthetic and has ties to Data. It’s more character driven than action based, but also feels darker in tone and had swearing that caught me off guard. Season 2 brought in Q who shook up the storyline. Picard and the gang travel back in time in an alternate timeline and they need to fix things to get back to theirs. Season 3 might as well be called Star Trek: The Next Generation because almost the entire cast is back for it. It’s easily the best of the 3 seasons and starts with Picard and Riker picking up Beverly Crusher and her son during a distress call. We see the old enemy The Borg and the Borg Queen throughout the season, but there’s also a new enemy hunting Crusher’s son which is awesome. With The Changelings infiltrating all aspects of our heroes lives, it’s a solid season of who is who. If you are a ST: TNG fan, Season 3 is worth the price of the set alone. If you haven’t given Star Trek: Picard a chance you should especially as the show progressed. I think it’s better than Discovery by miles, but it might simply be because it’s full of characters we already love. It looks fantastic on Blu-ray.

Blue Bloods: The Thirteenth Season opens with a domestic disturbance case and Frank and an archbishop go undercover to see how the public views cops. Following episodes involve a crime scene at a hotel, a mutual friend is hospitalized, there’s a gang related shooting, an off-duty cop doesn’t step up during a crime, a chess scammer is killed, a serial killer is murdering young women, Danny works with a Texas Ranger (Lyle Lovett), it tackles illegal immigration in New York, an NYPD evidence building is burned, and there’s a copycat killer. If you read me you know I only watch Blue Bloods when the DVDs come my way despite overall not minding the show. My parents still watch it weekly so there’s a fanbase keeping it going. I’ll watch Season 14 next year when the DVDs get delivered.

Last we have NCIS: The 20th Season. This is a show I never got into and only watch when I get it delivered. My mom still consistently watches it on TV, but doesn’t like it as much without Mark Harmon. I like Gary Cole and Katrina Law, but I’ve just never become a fan of the show even with their additions. Plus it has Wilmer Valderrama who I will always see as Fez. Season 20 starts with Cole’s character Parker still on the run and the team trying to clear his name. Follow up episodes involve a body being found at an ancient burial site, there’s a possible mole in the team, a Thanksgiving race has a shooting, Parker has his identity stolen, an actress shadows the team to prepare for a role, a ride share driver is killed, Agent Knight goes viral after saving a mother and kid from an accident, a senator’s daughter is killed. I’m personally not a fan of the show, but if you’ve gone along this far you might as well grab season 20.
