Synopsis:

In-Lawfully Yours follows Jesse (Crisp), a fun-loving New York City girl. After her husband Chaz (Boyd) cheats on and later divorces her, Jesse still graciously helps her recently widowed mother-in-law, Naomi (Henner), pack up her home in small-town Bethel Cove. Jesse’s candid wit, eccentric questions and big city ways clash with the local community, including the town pastor Ben (Williamson), who also happens to be her ex-husband’s brother-in-law. The unlikely duo soon discovers what they are both looking for: each other. But when they make their relationship public, Jesse’s ex-husband rallies the community against her and gets Ben fired from the church. Jesse leaves Bethel Cove to bring peace to Ben’s situation, and to hopefully find a place where she truly belongs, in spite of the fact that she can’t stop thinking about Ben.

In-Lawfully Yours

What We Thought:

In-Lawfully Yours is for the Lifetime or Hallmark crowd and there’s nothing wrong with that. My sister would eat this up.

It’s every clichéd romance movie we’ve seen before. You know exactly what’s going to happen. But again, if you’re part of that crowd that likes these films, you’ll enjoy it.

You know she’ll fall for the pastor. You know she’ll have a hard time fitting in with the small town life. She wants a fancy city coffee and the manager at the diner doesn’t like her, so she ain’t getting one! She’s not the religious type so the church ladies immediately don’t like her!

I will say that Chelsey Crisp is pretty darn charming and adorable as Jesse. It’s quite understandable why the pastor would fall for her. She reminded me a lot of Mircea Monroe in 3 Days of Normal. It’s that classic fish out of water angle of big city girl in small town living.

Did I roll my eyes at some parts? Of course, but I’m not the target audience for this type of movie and I’m ok with that. The target demographic will love it as they drink their wine. The characters are all nice and pretty and you root against the ex-husband because he’s the “bad guy”.

Then it all comes out to a happy ending just like you expected. In-Lawfully Yours doesn’t break any rules or try anything new, but it works because of that. It’s a Dove approved film with a religious message and has lots of hope and love. If that’s your thing, then it is…
