Synopsis:
The birds are back in this British sitcom classic, but sisters Sharon (Pauline Quirke, Broadchurch) and Tracey (Linda Robson, Shine on Harvey Moon) have gone their separate ways and have not spoken in a long time. Meanwhile, their old friend Dorien (Lesley Joseph, Night and Day) has achieved fame under her pen name, Foxy Cohen, with her best-selling “erotic memoir,” Sixty Shades of Green.
When the trio find themselves facing financial trouble, they bury the hatchet and move in together. As they deal with low-wage jobs, dubious tattoos, and kids—and exes—turning up on their doorstep, their full house overflows with hilarity. Returning after a 15-year hiatus, this beloved comedy “has stood the test of time and come out on the other side more brilliant and chaotic than ever” (Belfast Telegraph, UK).

What We Thought:
I love British dramas. They make some fantastic crime based television. British comedies on the other hand are usually more miss than hit for me. I wasn’t familiar with Birds of a Feather at all, but it’s had fans for over 15 years.
Watching Birds of a Feather Set 1 without seeing or even knowing about the previous seasons probably wasn’t smart. That being said, I still don’t know if I would have liked it anyways.
I never got into Absolutely Fabulous and this reminded me of that a lot. There’s three main women in this, but it has the same type of humor which doesn’t really work for me.
There were some things I laughed at, but overall it’s very British humor. It’s very dry and referential to British stuff. They call it beloved on the packaging so clearly people somewhere like it.
I did like that it has a sitcom vibe. It feels like a 1980s or 1990s show which is what I grew up with. It’s character driven and story driven around those characters. Today we seem to over complicate stories and characters and I did like the simplicity of this.
The first episode had some laughs so I was digging it at first, but it petered out to me. Maybe I like laughing at death and expected more of that type of humor, but just didn’t get it.
I think fans of The Golden Girls and Absolutely Fabulous will like Birds of a Feather Set 1. Obviously fans of the previous seasons will like it as well. Just not my type of humor I guess.
