What We Thought:
Quantum Leap was a mixed bag here at The Nerds Templar. Assistant Editor Rocky Maxwell liked it overall. I on the other hand never quite got into it until now.
I remember catching reruns of it on cable and thinking it was alright, but watching this DVD set of Season 1 & 2, I understand why people got into it.
Why it works is the chemistry between Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. They have a fantastic back & forth and just natural fit. I don’t think the show would work as well with different actors.
The premise is also a strong selling point. Who wouldn’t want the ability to change the past and fix things that didn’t go your way? Plus being able to “leap” into other people and help them is cool.
At the time the show was pretty groundbreaking in terms of special effects and science fiction. It might be a bit cheesy by today’s standards, but most science fiction doesn’t age too well.
Stand out episodes include: The Pilot which set the tone for the show, the boxer and the nuns, Humphrey Bogart, his first leap into a woman’s body, the blind concert pianist, the frat house episode, the pool game and the Queen Mary.
Quantum Leap has been on DVD before, but I liked this collection of Season 1 & 2 together. It flows nice and isn’t too long because Season 1 is relatively short. The show has grown on me watching it in order so I’m glad this came my way. If you were a fan of the show, it’s definitely
RECOMMENDED!
