Synopsis:

Patrick Stewart (X-Men films, Star Trek: The Next Generation) brings his commanding screen presence to the role of Ian Hood, special scientific troubleshooter for the British government. A brilliant professor with a taste for danger, Hood has the technical acumen, analytical skills, and passion for justice that make him the ideal expert to call in a crisis. Backed by his tough-minded, wisecracking bodyguard, Rachel Young (Ashley Jensen, Ugly Betty, Extras), Hood takes on rogue cloners, ruthless polluters, resurgent viruses, and other menaces at the frontiers of modern science.

Created by acclaimed sci-fi writer Stephen Gallagher (Doctor Who), Eleventh Hour delivers fascinating investigations and electrifying suspense.

Eleventh Hour

What We Thought:

Eleventh Hour is a solid suspense mini-series starring Patrick Stewart. It mixes science and story to hold your attention.

It’s a four part series that unravels the story more and more. There’s a mysterious illness and containment situation, cloning and more that Patrick Stewart has to figure out and solve.

It has a science-y vibe similar to Fringe with a “Who dun it?” style like Sherlock or a C.S.I. Maybe even a little House. Stewart definitely comes across like Sherlock or Dr. House.

Stewart and co-star Ashley Jensen have good chemistry together. He’s the man with wild ideas and she’s the cop that has to keep him grounded. They play off each other quite well and you need that Sherlock/Watson dynamic in a series like this.

I know British shows and mini-series like to go multiple episodes and short season, but I don’t know if it worked here. I think 4 episodes was too much. It seemed to drag at certain points trying to continue storylines. I think a sharp 3 hours and I would have liked it more I think.

Overall I still enjoyed Eleventh Hour. Patrick Stewart is a great actor and he really shines here. Fans of his should definitely check it out if they haven’t seen it already. If you like shows like Sherlock, I also recommend it.
